Francine Friedman Griesing

Managing Member

Francine Friedman Griesing is the founder and Managing Member of Griesing Mazzeo Law. Fran is a valued, strategic advisor to top executives and general counsel at the region’s and country’s largest corporations and institutions.

What do you focus on?

I focus my practice on representing clients in business transactions, commercial litigation, corporate matters, ethics, and alternate dispute resolution. I also serve as an arbitrator and mediator, primarily in commercial and employment disputes, and has extensive experience conducting proceedings remotely.

More than a lawyer

As the daughter of two immigrant parents, one of whom was a Holocaust survivor, I have a lifelong commitment to challenging injustice and serving the community. Serving on non-profit boards, particularly for organizations devoted to advancing the promotion of historically marginalized groups, is something I value.  In that regard, I have served on various groups advocating against bigotry, such as the American Jewish Committee and the Women in the Profession Committees at the local, state and national level. For over twenty years, I have been writing and teaching about ethics issues, including confronting bullying and bias in the legal profession and the business world. I continue to advocate for a level playing field for everyone in the workforce.

I still find time to relax, enjoying many forms of exercise, including hiking, cycling, yoga and Pilates.  My passion is dance, having studied many types of dance ranging from traditional ballet to my favorites Caribbean and African dance. Unable to sit still even watching a movie, my hands are often full with my latest craft obsession, whether it’s embroidery or knitting.  I am especially proud of raising my daughter Emily, who is a successful entrepreneur.

Fran has over thirty-five years of experience representing clients in complex business transactions, high stakes litigation, employment, ethics and alternate dispute resolution matters. Fran’s clients include public companies, privately-held businesses, non-profit organizations, government entities and executives, predominantly in the hospitality, technology, chemical, pharmaceutical, healthcare, retail and manufacturing industries. Fran also frequently represents lawyers and law firms in professional responsibility, ethical compliance, risk management and malpractice avoidance. She defends law firm clients in malpractice actions and conducts ethics training for in-house counsel. Fran draws upon her experience as a neutral arbitrator and mediator to craft resolutions that reduce risk and limit liability. She is included on the American Arbitration Association National Roster of Arbitrators and Mediators for commercial and employment matters, CPR’s Panels of Distinguished Neutrals for commercial, employment and mass claims employment matters as well as the Philadelphia Commerce Court Judge Pro Tempore list. Fran is also a member of CPR’s National Task Force on Diversity in ADR and Co-Chair of the Subcommittee on Corporate and Law Firm ADR Selection Programs. She is also FINRA arbitrator.

According to Chambers and Partners USA, a leading directory of the legal profession, clients describe Fran as “intensely detail-focused and a persuasive and energetic litigator” with a “professional and personable manner.” Chambers has also expressly recognized her for her work in the hospitality industry, and for her “practical and down-to-earth counsel.” According to Client Choice, which recognizes law firm partners around the world that stand apart for their excellent client care and quality of service, “Fran is a level-headed and highly skilled practitioner who has been invaluable in helping reach settlements and, when necessary, litigating complex commercial disputes.”

Prior to launching Griesing Mazzeo Law in 2010, Fran practiced law at top tier firms in New York and Philadelphia and she also served as Chair of Litigation of Philadelphia’s City Solicitor’s Office under former Mayor Edward G. Rendell, who later served as Governor of Pennsylvania. As the City’s top trial lawyer from 1997 to 2000, Fran advised the Mayor, ranking administration officials and City Council on cutting-edge legal issues, handling over 2,000 cases per year, supervising 75 lawyers plus staff, and overseeing outside counsel. Furthermore, as the City’s lead attorney on several high-profile matters, she is accustomed to working with a diverse constituency and performing under public scrutiny.
